Summer Mixtape 26 – Pt5
Grant’s talk reframed righteousness not as a life with fewer failures, but as a life marked by the continual courage to rise after falling. Drawing from Proverbs 24:16, he argued that the verse is less concerned with how often we fail than with what we do next, challenging the tendency to keep a personal ledger of our mistakes. Using insights from Karen Armstrong, Montaigne, and the biblical examples of Peter and Jesus, Grant described righteousness as an orientation toward God and community rather than a measure of moral perfection. He concluded with the image of the church as a well instead of a fence—a place where thirsty people continually return for grace, are reoriented toward love, and are sent back into the world to carry that grace to others.
